Local Data Storage

Titleflix stores minimal data locally on your device using Chrome’s storage API:

What is Stored:

  • Extension enabled/disabled state: Whether you have the extension turned on or off
  • Theme preference: Your choice of Auto, Light, or Dark theme for the extension popup
  • System theme detection: Whether your system is in dark mode (used for auto theme switching)

Important Notes:

  • This data never leaves your device
  • This data is not transmitted to any servers
  • This data is not shared with any third parties
  • You can clear this data by uninstalling the extension

Permissions Explained

Titleflix requests minimal permissions to function:

activeTab

  • Purpose: Allows the extension to read the current Netflix tab to detect content titles
  • Usage: Only activated when you’re viewing Netflix pages
  • Limitation: Cannot access other tabs or websites

storage

  • Purpose: Saves your preferences (on/off state, theme choice) locally on your device
  • Usage: Stores settings in Chrome’s local storage
  • Limitation: Data never leaves your device

Host Permission (://.netflix.com/*)

  • Purpose: Allows the extension to run only on Netflix websites
  • Usage: Enables content title detection and tab title updating
  • Limitation: Cannot access any other websites

How Titleflix Works

  1. Content Detection: When you visit Netflix, the extension reads the page content to identify what you’re watching
  2. Title Update: The extension updates your browser tab title to include the content name
  3. Local Storage: Your preferences are saved locally on your device
  4. No Network Activity: The extension does not make any network requests or transmit data
